Parallel Session GT1 -
COSMOLOGICAL SINGULARITIES
Chair:
Spiros Cotsakis
Berlin
- July 23 -29, 2006
|
 |
The
topics of this session include problems related to the existence and
nature of spacetime singularities, especially in a cosmological
framework, in a variety of currently popular themes:
- General relativity
- Scalar
field,
phantom and tachyonic cosmology
- Higher
derivative theories (R^2, f(R) etc)
- Scalar-tensor
and varying constant theories
- Inflationary
and quantum cosmology
- Braneworlds
and string models
The
methods used to deal with the singularity problem are themselves of
special interest for the Parallel Session:
- Global
causality theory
- Tensor
methods
- Dynamical
system methods
- Methods
of asymptotic analysis
- Methods
of partial differential equations
Many talks of
this Session will in fact consider the application of one (or more!) of
these methods to study the singularity structure in one of the
aforementioned theoretical frameworks for the main cosmological spaces of
current interest:
- (Anti-) de Sitter spaces
- Robertson-Walker spaces
- Homogeneous spacetimes
and more,
and also for a variety of matter fields.
