Welcome to Konstantinos' OLD personal (semantic) Web document. This document (written in XHTML) is based on early efforts to provide both human and machine readable portions of a specific content (RDF-in-HTML). From this URL he also provides machine process-able content of this document (as an example case), in form of OWL annotations (from SWRC ontology) and additional metadata such as VCard, Dublin Core and FOAF (click the icons below).

Research Topics

Short Description of  Ph.D research

The aim of his thesis was the design and implementation of multilingual collaborative ontological environments for the management of knowledge from non-expert users. The main objective was to identify the human factors and needs during the use of such environment in order to finally shift from a machine-centered ontology management to human-centered one. The ultimate goal was to build new generation environments where the distributed around the world Knowledge Workers (domain experts) will be the in-collaboration end-users without needing any support by the Knowledge Engineers.
His research towards ontology management tools and methods has accentuated the role of human-centered computing within the loop of knowledge (ontology + information) construction and consumption, and at the same time has presented the principles, framework, and key issues of the design and development of HCONE (Human-centered Collaborative Ontological Engineering Environment). His major intention was to motivate future knowledge and ontology management tools’ designers to strongly consider human factors and a collaborative ontology engineering methodology called HCOME (Human Centered Ontology Engineering Methodology).
One of the most important research he has carried out concerned on automating ontology mapping process using the intended interpretations of terms for mapping concepts. To accomplish an effective (minimum user involvement) mapping between the intended interpretations and the concepts of ontologies, WordNet and Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) were utilized.
