“Samos supports its students”
Study with a scholarship in Samos at the Dpt. of Information & Communication Systems Eng., University of the Aegean
The ongoing economic crisis, together with the pandemic and other issues in the North Aegean and on Samos in particular, still puts great pressure on families of new students in the University of the Aegean departments on Samos, leading many to choose programmes near home, pushing entrance baselines very low and reducing student numbers on the island.
To limit this — which can even threaten the very presence of the University on the island — and to support new students who excel in the entrance exams, the Department of Information and Communication Systems Engineering implements the pioneering scholarship programme “SAMOS SUPPORTS ITS STUDENTS”.
Under the programme, the highest-ranking new entrants for academic year 2023–24 who meet a minimum mark threshold will receive a scholarship of €10,000 to support their stay on Samos for the 5 years of their studies. Scholarships are paid in instalments according to the students’ academic progress.
The Department will cover a nationwide information campaign so that “SAMOS SUPPORTS ITS STUDENTS” reaches parents and students across Greece, and will support the programme administratively (selection and monitoring of progress, transparency) throughout its life.
For 2023, the target is to award scholarships to the first three to five female/male students, thus attracting a multiple of good students to our department.
Individuals, companies, organisations and foundations are invited to contribute to the scholarship programme according to their means.
All scholarships are paid by the University of the Aegean directly to the students, according to the programme rules. Donors receive detailed information on the use of their gift and the documentation required for tax recognition.
The University will express its gratitude and public recognition to every partner in this effort. Donors may choose not to have their details published.

“Samos supports its students” — Dpt. of I.C. Systems Eng.
The “Samos supports its students” programme awards scholarships of up to €10,000 to high-achieving national exam candidates in the 90% general upper-secondary stream for the B.Sc. in Information and Communication Systems Engineering, University of the Aegean, whose entrance mark exceeds 15,000 points.
Scholars are selected solely by the national exam admission ranking of first-year high achievers, with no other financial or social criterion. If available funds are insufficient for all who meet the above, selection follows the ranking order. Support is paid in annual instalments according to the minimum study duration, provided scholars meet the following:
- They have successfully passed courses totalling at least 45 ECTS by the end of the September resit of each previous year after admission.
- Their average mark in the previous year’s courses is 7.0 or higher.
These scholarships are separate from any other student aid or entitlements (e.g. student halls, free meals, etc.).
The scholarship is subject to available resources and may be changed by a Department Assembly decision.
